The tour will focus on the picturesque Albert Schweitzer Foundation in Lambaréné. The museum traces the life of Albert-Schweitzer, who was a physician, theologian, and musicologist. He opened a hospital in 1913 and ran it until his death in 1965. It was one of the first hospitals in Gabon and he spent a large part of his life treating diseases. The exhibitions in the Albert Schweitzer Museum trace the history of the hospital from its genesis to today. There are numerous photographs, documents, personal souvenirs, masks, musical instruments, canoes, and many other objects. This wonderful museum is a must-see attraction in Gabon. We will then make an excursion on the Azingo, Evaro and Zilet islands.
Located north of the Chaillu Massif in the heart of Gabon, the Lope National Park was created in 2002, it covers an area of 500,000 ha and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. The park is qualified as mixed because it is remarkable for its forest as well as its savannah. The National Park is home mainly to tropical forest animal species. There are about 50 mammals such as the lowland gorillas, chimpanzees. Hippos, elephants, buffaloes, several duiker species, bushbuck, sitatunga (rare), bush pig, several Cercopithecus, mandrill and drills species and more than 300 bird species such as Picathartes, African peregrine falcons and many other species.
