07 Days and 06 Nights to the discovery of Libreville, Pongara and Lambarene
The tour will focus on two points, the Pongara National Park and the picturesque Albert Schweitzer Foundation in Lambaréné. The Pongara National Park remains a must-see attraction in Gabon. Located just a few km from Libreville, it is a protected area since 2002, and it covers an area of 92.900 ha which is the largest mangrove area of the country. It is made up of different types of forests, grassy savannahs, and mangroves and it is crossed by several rivers. The Pongara National Park is home to buffalos, hippos, duikers, elephants, amphibians, reptiles (turtles, lizards, and snakes), monkeys (chimpanzees), many fish species, mangrove crabs and many more.
We will make an excellent discovery of the International Hospital Foundation of Dr. Albert Schweitzer. It is located in the city of Lambaréné. This museum traces the life of Albert-Schweitzer who was a physician, theologian, and musicologist. He was the 1952 Nobel laureate. He opened a hospital in 1913 and ran it until his death in 1965. It was one of the first hospitals in Gabon and he spent a large part of his life treating diseases. The exhibitions in the Albert Schweitzer Museum trace the history of the hospital from its genesis to today.
